Dahlia Pulp Fiction - bulb

Dahlia 'Pulp Fiction' is an attractive variety of 'simple dahlia', each flower a deep red jewel that brightens the green foliage throughout the summer. How to grow dahlias

• Remove dead flowers to encourage new buds to form.
• Dahlias also require fertilisation. You can use loose organic fertilisers such as vermicompost, conventional compost or liquid organic or mineral fertilisers designed for flowering plants.
• In addition to the above treatments, it is essential to give dahlias space, as dahlias do not feel comfortable when faced with competition from other plants.
• The tubers are planted after the first half of May - smaller varieties 50-70 cm apart. The root collar (where the stem grows out of the tuber) should be about 10 cm below the ground.
• Dahlias are grown in a sunny location protected from the wind.
• Dahlias are sensitive to cold temperatures. When cold weather arrives, the shoots should be cut down to the ground and the tubers carefully dug up to avoid damage. Allow them to dry a little, remove excess soil and place them in baskets or boxes filled with sand, peat or sawdust. Store them in a cool, dry room (4-6°C and 80% humidity) until spring and replant them.
