Eucharis amazonica, also known as the Amazonian lily, is a popular houseplant native to South America. It is prized for its glossy, dark green leaves and beautiful white flowers that resemble daffodils. Growing Eucharis amazonica is not too difficult, but it does require following a few guidelines for the plant to thrive. Here is a brief guide to growing this beautiful plant:

How to grow the Amazonian lily

  • Light and location: Eucharis amazonica prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn its leaves. The ideal location is near an east- or west-facing window.
  • Temperature: This plant prefers warm conditions with temperatures between 18 and 20 °C. Flowering is controlled by alternating dry periods with lower temperatures, 13-15 °C in winter and 15-18 °C in summer, and wet periods with higher temperatures, substrate 21-24 °C, air 20 °C. When grown at home, these temperatures are reached in June and the plant flowers in October. Avoid draughts and sudden changes in temperature.
  • Watering: Eucharis amazonica likes regular watering, but the soil should dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during the winter months when the plant is not growing.
  • Moisture: As a plant from a tropical environment, it prefers high humidity. Regular watering or placing the plant on a moist stoneware tray can help maintain appropriate humidity.
  • Fertilizing: During the growing season, spring and summer months, fertilize the plant weekly with a balanced floral fertilizer dissolved at half the manufacturer's recommended rate.
  • Repotting: Eucharis amazonica prefers to be slightly crowded in a pot, which helps to encourage flowering. Repot only when absolutely necessary, usually every three to four years. Plant bulbs in an airy substrate with added compost or guano.
  • Reproduction: eucharis is best propagated by transplanting. Separate the side bulbs and plant them in separate pots.
  • Pests and Diseases: Common pests, such as aphids and aphids, can attack the plant. Check the foliage regularly and apply a suitable insecticide at the first sign of infestation.

By following these guidelines, you can help your Amazon lily grow healthy and bloom beautifully. This plant can be a wonderful addition to your interior, bringing a bit of the tropical forest into your home.
